Students’ Donation Campaign for Syrian schools hits 10-years High in history of the Reformed Educational Fund in the Carpathian Basin. Students and teachers of Hungarian reformed schools raised more than 60 000 USD for the renovation of Syrian evangelical schools.

Toward a World of Neighbours

RCH representatives joined the workshop on the invitation of Church of Sweden that brought together 70 representatives from various churches, ecumenical organisations, religious communities and civil organisations from across Europe in Malmö between 27 and 30 January.

Demolishing the wall of silence

“The government’s goal is to demolish the wall of silence surrounding persecuted Christians”, State Secretary Tristan Azbej declared in Washington after the annual National Prayer Breakfast. The State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and the Implementation of the Hungary Helps Program highlighted the commitment of the Hungarian government for religious freedom.

Justice for Roma

Under the title “Justice for Roma and Sinti – a challenge for churches” Churches´ Commission for Migrants in Europe will organize a conference in cooperation with the Reformed Church in Hungary to be held on 9–11 March 2020 in Budapest. The objective of the meeting in the Synod Building of RCH is to encorage churches across Europe to address the social and political challenges together, take a stance together with Roma and Sinti, cooperate in the field of advocacy, sensitisation and social support and exchange best practices.

An ecumenical delegation composed of representatives from the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) and the Conference of European Churches (CEC) met in Zagreb on Monday, 20 January 2020 with Mr. Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of Croatia to exchange on the priorities of the Croatian Presidency of the EU Council, which started on 1 January 2020. Péter Szenn, Bishop of the Reformed Christian Calvinist Church in Croatia, was among the participants on the invitation of CEC.

The Hungarian Reformed Church Aid (HRCA) helps people in deep poverty to keep their homes warm in the cold season. HRCA started the firewood project to save lives. The project is also supported by the Evangelical Church in Rhineland.

School for Christmas

The students and teachers at the Damascus school of our Armenian partner church awaited Christmas under a roof in need of repairs, in dilapidated classrooms with inadequate heating. This matters because education is of key significance when it comes to the peaceful coexistence of various groups and religions in the Middle East. Our on-the-scene reporting covers the beneficiary of this year’s fundraising by the Reformed Educational Fund in the Carpathian Basin.
