Partner churches

The RCH's mission reaches beyond the borders of Hungary. Therefore RCH wishes to accomplish its tasks in several ways: maintaining a relationship with over 20 churches on four continents, expanding contacts with more partner churches, benefitting from bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and actively participating in the work of various ecumenical organisations and programmes. National, presbytery, church district and congregation level twinning programmes (also between educational and diaconial institutions) and theological and professional collaborations enrich the service of RCH in faith, knowledge, experience and finances.

  • Twinning

The essence of twinning is that two communities share one another's life and faith, looking at each other's experiences, thus enriching one another spiritually and mentally. One of the most important features of our long-lasting partnership with the Chruch of Scotland is the Twinning Programme. Besides the CoS, the congregations of the Reformed Church in America have also been maintaining prayer partnerships with certain Reformed churches in Hungary.

If you are interested in establishing a partnership with a Hungarian Reformed congregation, please send a message to the Ecumenical Office at oikumene@reformatus.hu.

  • Mission Co-workers

The RCH finds it important to deepen the cooperation and relationship with partner churches by inviting and hosting mission co-workers. Therefore our church collaborates with missionaries from America, Canada and Korea, who have been involved in different fields of our ministries, for example in the service among Roma and refugees.

Dick and Carolyn Otterness – Reformed Church in America

In partnership with the Hungarian Reformed Church, RCA mission personnel Dick and Carolyn Otterness mentor and serve as consultants to volunteer workers of several nationalities who minister with Roma in Hungary and in Hungarian-speaking areas of neighbouring countries. They support and collaborate with other ecumenical Christians to help Roma develop their own congregations and build bridges to existing congregations, access health care and education, and find employment or start small businesses.

Kathy and Joe Angi – Presbyterian Church in USA

Kathy is involved in three projects, two of which are in Transcarpathia. One of them is a project of Women Association, in which Roma women create baskets and sell them. The other one is about water filters being put up in poor areas. Kathy is also part of the "We Belong" curriculum preparation group, which is a joint American - Hungarian mission training pack for creating open and inclusive congregations. Joe has retired, but accompanies Kathy on her journeys, which are two or three times a year for approximately two months.

Mary Gorombey - Presbyterian Church in Canda

Mary Gorombey has worked with the Reformed Church in Hungary to integrate refugee youth into the Hungarian school system. She also teaches Hungarian as a second language and tutors many students outside of class time in various subjects. Currently, she is working as a prject coordimator with the Reformed Church Aid. An important part of her work is helping to change stereotypes and attitudes in a climate that is not favourable to refugees.

    Barbara Szucs – UCC/Global Ministries

Barbara Szucs, a member of The Lorain Hungarian Reformed Church, Lorain, Ohio, serves the Reformed Church in Hungary as a long term voluntary in the Roma Ministry as an enabler.

    Zoltan Szucs - UCC/Global Ministries

Zoltan Szucs, former Bishop (General Minister) of the Calvin Synod of UCC is a member of HRC of Lorain, United Church of Christ, Lorain, Ohio, serves the Reformed Church in Hungary - as fully paid missionary - as Professor of Practical Theology at the Seminary in Komarno (Slovakia).

Rev. Dr. Lee Hwasoo and his wife Yoo Hanah - PROK

The couple Lee has been sent as mission partners by Presbyterian Church of Republic of Korea (PROK) to the Reformed Church of Hungary. The primary missions assigned to them are teaching course(s) in Karoli Gaspar University, and providing some lay education program for the local churches when requested or arranged. In addition to these roles in mission, Dr. Lee is working as the co-minister for Budapest Korean Church in charge of Korean college students, and conducting worship services. Together with a Korean organization for handicapped people, they are helping the handicapped people in some of the institutions belonging to RCH. They offer some educational programs for Korean missionaries who are doing ministry for Hungarian congregations and they are involved in helping finance students scholarships.

    Chae-Hwa Jeong – PCK

Chae – Hwa Jeong and his family came to Hungary in January 22, 2003 to serve as a misson co-worker of the Reformed Church in Hungary. He and his wife, Jung Hye Yung have two daughters and one son. He teaches Bible studies in Greater Grace International School, is involved in Roma ministry and serves as a pastor in the Budapest Korean Presbyterian Church. His future plan is to build the relationship between PCK and RCH, and help the twinning relationship between their congregations. He would like to learn more and more about Hungary and the RCH, be part of the RCH's ministry in the field of Roma integration and help homless people.
