Statement on Parliamentary Elections

2014. március 17., hétfő

The Presidium of the Reformed Church in Hungary has issued a statement about the parliamentary election to be held on 6 April.

The Presidium of the Reformed Church in Hungary – in agreement with the Presidency Council composed of the bishops and lay presidents of the four church districts – encourages the Hungarian reformed believers to participate in the parliamentary election on the 6th of April. As is always the case in elections, it is again important that through casting our ballots at polling stations we take an active part in administering to the matters of our country and, through our vote, assume our role of responsibility to influence the decisions affecting our nation in the coming four years. We urge the congregations and their leaders to encourage members of their community to partake in the elections. Furthermore, we ask all members to go through the campaign period sober-minded and upholding the right order of our church.

For the first time since Hungary’s transition to democracy, the election will have a single round. The voters will elect 199 MPs instead of previous 386 lawmakers. 106 MPs will be elected directly on personal votes, 93 further members of the parliament will come from party lists and the 13 ethnic minority lists.
