You Can Help Yet It Doesn’t Cost You a Penny

RCH like all other churches and charities rely on 1% pledges of the taxpayers to support operation and social ministries of the Church. Similarly to the "Otto per mille" system in Italy, tax payers have the possibility to direct one percent of their already paid income tax to a particular church. A second one percent can be offered to an NGO.

Taxpayers in Hungary may opt to donate one percent of their income tax to a single charity and another one percent to a church or state-funded organisation, such as the National Talent Programme. The number of contributions made last year is well under the 5.1 million Hungarians who had to pay a personal income tax. Just under one million personal tax contributions were made to churches.

In past years, the RCH supported the collection with conscious marketing communication. Each year the RCH releases a visual communications campaign to encourage the Hungarian tax payers to allocate their 1% to the church. Through research and experiences of campaigns, we are more able to effectively succeed in reaching those strata of Hungarian society, who are most open to the messages of the church. In recent years, the central element of communication was to introduce and demonstrate that the church is not only a faith community but also active in social work.

This year RCH’s campaign focused on the awareness raising and encouragement generally and emphasized that designating one’s 1% is easy, confidential, and enables Hungarian taxpayers to support worthy causes in Hungary at no financial cost.
