A Church Facing Challenges and the Reality of the Kingdom of Heaven

The Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI) held its annual General Assembly in Belfast from 9–12 June, where delegates discussed the challenges, responsibilities and mission of the largest Protestant denomination on the island of Ireland. Alongside representatives of churches from Ireland and the United Kingdom, several international partner churches and ecumenical organisations were also present, including the Reformed Church in Hungary.

Emma Perry’s journey took her from Texas to Transcarpathia. Over the past three years, she has served in the Ecumenical Office of the Synod of the Reformed Church in Hungary. Her work here profoundly reshaped her way of thinking, while her visits to Transcarpathia showed her that when creativity is paired with faith, it can truly move mountains. We talked about her experiences before she returned to the United States.

The 2019 Starpoint Reformed Youth Festival took place in Debrecen from 23 July to 27 July. This year, the festival focused on the theme of Unity and Community: The Kingdom of God Surrounds Us.

Ecumenical guests journeyed to Starpoint from 11 countries and 16 partner churches of the RCH. Some expected a conference while others were surprised that, here, youthful songs were being sung. “Feel Kingdom of God surround you as you look for Him in the middle,” said István Szabó, Presiding Bishop of the RCH, who encouraged the participants of the Starpoint Reformed Youth Festival. On July 23rd, the ninth Starpoint kicked off in Debrecen with more than two thousand participants.

At this year's Starpoint, we want to show you how we are all surrounded by God’s love, even if we don't feel it or we haven't recognized it yet. In 2019, Debrecen will, again, host the meeting of the Reformed young people of the Carpathian Basin. This time, the theme will be unity and community.
